Why this is on the page at all

Because it is real and it is running, and I report what is running. Garuda first class and their SkyTeam partner awards are genuinely good redemptions, and at just over a cent a mile the price is not the issue.

The catch is the currency itself

No bank points transfer into GarudaMiles. Not Amex, not Chase, not Citi, not Capital One. If you want these miles, buying them is the only route. That makes every mile a cash decision with no way to back out.
